This is a picture of a model of Domkerk and Domtoren when Domkerk was at it's biggest. You can see they're connected. You can also see that the part of Domkerk between the tower and the chapel is not buttressed properly. They had intended to buttress it properly but temporarily ran out of money. Then the reformation came and the Dutch weren't so interested in spending money on Catholic cathedrals anymore, so they left it as it was. Then a hurricane came and knocked one of the walls over, which knocked the other wall over. It was never rebuilt and so Domkerk is much smaller these days.
